Establishment Parties Prevent Humane Abortion Amendments

Posted by:

Shockingly in recent weeks Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour and Sinn Féin voted against the following humane amendments to be included in the Abortion Bill:

  1. Pain relief for unborn babies in late term abortions. Babies in the womb respond to injury and research shows that pain and stress are experienced in late term abortions.
  2. Medical Care for babies who have survived an abortion and are seriously injured. In Britain a number of unborn babies survive abortions but are just allowed to die with no medical intervention.
  3. That it should illegal to have an abortion on the basis of disability and gender.
  4. The offer an ultrasound and heart audio to given to mother before an abortion if she wishes.
  5. Parental notification in the case of a girl under 16 years old who seek an abortion, a norm in many EU states.
  6. Freedom of Conscience to doctors, nurses and other health care providers not to be forced to carry out or arrange abortions.

Most people whether they voted yes or no in May support these measures yet shockingly Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour and Sinn Féin are in lockstep together preventing these simple humane amendments.

723,632 people voted against the introduction of abortion in May. This vote is higher than total Fine Gael vote, the total FF vote, the combined vote of Sinn Fein, the Labour Party, AAA, PbP, the Social Democrats and the Green party.

Over 20% of Yes voters in the referendum last May voted yes only for the most difficult circumstances. They do not agree with abortion on demand which is at the heart of Fine Gael’s Abortion Bill.

These 1 million voters currently have no voice in Leinster House other than a dozen brave TDs

€12,000,000 in taxpayers’ money will be provided for abortions next year despite 750,000 people on hospital waiting lists, 9,000 people waiting on trolleys and children in pain waiting for emergency scoliosis operations.

Please make sure you let your local FF, FG, Lab and SF rep know how angry you are about this before its too late.
