Fine Gael’s Ireland is not a good place to be a young mother or a child. In 2017 27 pregnant women were homeless. So far this year 10 pregnant woman have been forced into homelessness. The feminisation of poverty has accelerated under Fine Gael’s austerity governments.

3,267 children sleep in emergency accommodation, dozens of children lie daily on trolleys in overcrowded hospitals.

52,257 children are on hospital waiting lists. 8,500 children are waiting to see medical specialists.

Leo Varadkar and many on the right state they are prochoice but they ignore the economic factors that they create that make so many women feel that they don’t actually have a choice.

If the Taoiseach was pro ‘life saving’ choices he would lift families out of poverty, fund childcare, housing, healthcare, provide a decent living wage for working mothers.

We need to fight for the right to life of every mother and child for their whole lives. This can only be done through the 8th Amendment.
